NEW ZEALAND DEFENCES.

(By Telegraph.) Auckland, May 5. The Waihora, from Sydney, brings eight 64-pounder guns and other warliko stores for Government. Lieutenant Stapleton and five seamen of the Koyal Navy are among her passengers. Wellington, May 5. Captain Badham, -who will have charge of the New Zealand Artillery, has arrived m the colony, but will inspect the southern defences before coining to Wellington. The eight 64 pounder guns, which arrived at Auckland from Sydney this morning, are to be distributed throughout the coloay. ■ It has not yet been decided whether the Militia will be called out, but m any case, unless hostilities occur between Russia and England, they will only be called out at Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, and Dunedin. Dunbdin, May 5. Major Cautley and Captain Badhatn, who arrived yesterday, inspect the defence works at the Heads to-morrow and then proceed to Lyttelton. The defence works have been delayed by recent bad weather.
