NARROW ESCAPE OF THE BARQUE VILLALTA.

Dtjnedin, May 1. The barqne Villalta on her voyage from "Wellington had a narrow escape on the morning of the 30th. During a fog Captain Thomson stood m for what he took to bo Blueskin Bay. Finding ho was abreast of a lighthouse, and obtaining no response to his signal, he stood out to sea. The wind becoming light and the fog thicker, he stood m again, keeping the lead going, and he then distinguished the roar of tho breakers. Hauling off, the lifting of tho fog revealed a bright white light instead of the red light at i'aiaroa Heads which ho expected. The anchor was dropped, and ■when the ves3ol was getting out again she had to pas 3on the verge of Pish Reef, and within 100 yards of tho shore, a task almost hopeless m consequence of the light winds.
