JUVEMELB InDUSTBIAL EXHIBITION. — The distribution of awards m connection with the late Band of Hope Juvenile Industrial Exhibition was made m tho Congregational Church last evening, His Worship the Mayor presiding. A report of the proceedings will appear m Monday's issue Tbmuka.— At the Resident Magistrate's Courthouse, Temuka, yesterday, Mr Walter Eitson, Commissioner of Crown Lands, submitted by auction the lease for seven years of the Market Beserre at Arowhenus, containing about 11 acres, The upset price was £5 12s 6d per year. The biddings were brisk, and the amount realised was £19, at which price it was knocked down to Mr 0. Storey. Gabbison Band. — We are informed Bandmaster Thos." Ferry and Captain A. St. G-. Hamersley, of the C Battery, had an interview last evening relative to forming what has been known as the Artillery Band into a Garrison Band, and that m about a week all arrangements will be finally settled. Each corps m town — the C Battery, Navals, Biflea and C.V.C.— will have five members of the Band attached to them, the whole -forming the Band, which will attend parades as ordered by the commanding officers. The many well-wishers the Band have will no doubt be pleased to hear of their promotion' which is certainly well-deserved. Ufpeji Pabbora School.— A general meeting of the Committee was held on. the 27th April. Present — Messrs Burnett (Ohairman), Hendry, John Campbell, Robert Campbell, and Bovill. Tho minutes of; the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from the Education Board relative to repairs. The Master's monthly report was wad, showing the average daily attendance to be 59. The Visitors m thejr report stated that order was' well maintained m the school. They also advised the Committee to procure a quantity of shingle for the porch entrance, an additional number of hat pegs for the lobby, and the use of carbolic acid powder for the closets. An application by the Sewing Mistress for leave of absence was considered, and at once agreed to. Messrs Caird and Hendry were appointed Visitors for the ensuing month, and the meeting then terminated. ■ Bkbidekt Magistrate's Copbt. — At this Court yesterday, .W. Hall and H. J. LeCren, Esqrs., J.P.s, presided. John Strong alias John Strain alia* Anderson charged with being drunk was sentenced to 24 hours imprisonmet. . The same accused was further oWged with ragranoy, and after Constable Casey, Deteotive Kirby and the licensee of the Club Hotel had given evidence, proving the offenoe, he was further sentenced to U days hard labor.
