TEMUKA — Wednesday, April 22nd.

(Before S. D. Barker, Esq., J.P., and J. Talbot, Esq., J.P.) UNREGISTERED DOS. Murdoch McKay admitted a charge of having an unregistered dog in his following on the 11th inst., and a fine of 10s was inflicted. VICIOUS DOGS. D. Charteris was charged with allowing on tho sth inst. a dog, his property, to attack people travelling on a public thoroughfare. Constable Morton gave evidence that on the day in question he was proceeding on horseback towards Winchester, ■ and that on passing the defendant's residence tho dog rushed out barking, and endeavored to bite his horso, and that he had to maintain a firm hol'l, or the horse would have run away.

■ The defendant called thrco witnesses to show that they had never been annoyed by the dog, although they were in the habit of passing defendant's place, but not oue of them was ablo to give evidenco bearing on tho correctness or otherwise of the Constable's statement.

The Bench considered the charge fully proved, and inflicted a fino of ss, stating that owners of dogs should take care that the public were not placed in danger by their dogs being at large. James Roddick was charged with permitting his dog to rush at people travelling. The defendant's wife attended, and stated that she did not know anything about the charge. E. H. Brewer-gave evidence that on the 26th March he was walking along the Main South Road whcil tho dog ran furiously towards him, and bit his hand.

A fine of 10s and 5s costs was imposed, CIVIL CASES.

Judgment for the amount by consent. E. McCormick v. J. Mcßratney — Claim, £4 7s 3d. Judgment summons.

An order was . made for payment of half the amount within 14 days, and the balance 14 days thereafter, in [default 14 days ' imprisonment. Seigort and Fauvell v. W. Cassidy — Claim £10 14s 3d. > Judgment for the plaintiffs for £9 19s 3d and costs.
