AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.

Mr E. R. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited), reports for the week ended Friday, 10th April, as follows : — Cattle. — The supply of beef is still very plentiful. This no doubt is caused by the fact that feed throughout the summer has been unusually good, and all stock that have been well done by are now fit for the butcher. It is evidentthat fat cattle are scaroe m New South Wales. "We hear from reliable authority that a large sale has been made m the North Island. 1000 head haa been sold to the New South Wales Meat Preserving Company at £7 10s per head. At Studholme Junction sale wo sold on account of Mr M. Studholme 24 head prime quality bullocks, 12 at i! 82s 6d, 12 at £3. On account of Mr F. Simmona, 9 head nice quality, but light weights at £6 10s. Stores— Nothing of any note has taken place. A few small fines have changed hands at about late prices. Sheep. — The market is fairly well supplied, and no improvement m prices has taken place. We quote prime mutton, lAd to ljd per lb. Stores. — At Studholme Junction sale tho yards were full. Notwithstanding the good attendance very few lots found buyers, the prices asked by owners being beyond the limits of purchasers. Private sales. — Since our last report, we have placed the following lines : — 650 cull merino ewes at 3s 6il, 320 crossbred lambs at os, 400 halfbred ewes at os, 860 merino wctbora at 4s 9d ; and have transactions for several lots pending. Clearing Sale.— On Wednesday, the Bth (m conjunction with Mr K. F. Gray), we held a clearing sale of aheep, cattle, horses, farming implements, etc, on account of Mr L. D. Barker, who is relinquishing farming. The attendance was large. The sheep being rather out of condition did not look to advantage, consequently some of the lines did not bring prices quite up to expectations. The cattle all looked well, especially the milch cowa, which brought very satisfactory prices. Crossbred ewes, 6s 9d to 12s 6d, crossbred lambs, 4s 9d to 10s 3d, Southdown ewes, 13s to 15s, 52 Southdown ram lambs, 17s 6d to £2, 23 Southdown rams 1 to 3 guineas, 17 head mixed cattle from £2 5s to JES 7a 6d, 18 head milch cows from .£5 2s 6d to X 6 15s ; hack horses from .£8 10s to .£ls. Farming implements at very satisfactory prices, also a lot of oats, seconds, wheat, aud grass seed was disposed of. Messrs Maclean aud Stewart report tor the past weok as follows, viz. : — Horses. — An entry of 45 head was roooived lit their yardß to-day for sale, comprising about 20 good farm mares and geldings, the balance being medium draughts, hocks, and unbroken colts and fillies. A rather better demand was to-day shown for the various lots offered, and though the prices were low, 25 head were disposed of at from JJ24 to £Zl for good draughts .£l4. to £16 for medium sorts, and from =£8 tc .£l2 for hacks. Sheep. — A very large supply of store sheoj is at present finding its way into the different yards, and numerous lots are ohanging hands For the South there are enquiries botb foi breeding and feeding off sheep, and tha market has during the last month considerably relieved Sonth Canterbury of its surplus atook At their fortnightly salo held at the Washdyk< Free Yards last Tuesday another heav: inpply was entered, and a considerabli amount of business wa3 done. They sold 101 crossbred ewea at 7s, 300 orosabred lambs a 7s sd, 800 merino ewes from 2s 2d to 3s, 501 half-bred ewea at 6s 9d. Privately durinf the week they have disposed of 450 orossbret owes at a satisfactory price. Fat Sheep-

The supply is at present plontiful, and prices m consequence easy, from l}d to 2d per lb may be quoted as their value. They sold at the Washdyke last Tuesday over -100 crossbred ewes and wethers at from 12s lOd to 13s ; and privately during the woek they havo placed at satisfactory prices 2800 prime orosabred ewes and wethers. Cattle.— Good 2 and 3-year-old cattle are m demand, and a few small lines of those found purchasers on Tuesday last at the Washdyke Yards at from .£3 7s 6d to .£4 10s, cows from £2 to ,£3 10s, calves 15s to 20s. Fat Cattle. — They quote present values of prime beef at from 153 to 17s 6d per 1001 b at these quotations. They have placed both privately and at auction several lots. Skina, Hides and Tallow. — Their usual fortnightly sale was held at their rooms last Wednesday. A small catalogue was booked, but all the different lots wore sold at good values. Butchers' half-bred and merino skins from Is 9d to 2a sd, farmers' lots Is lOd to 2s 3d, pelts Gd to Is 3d. Hides they havo sold at from 3d to 4d per lb, according to quality, etc. Tallow, from 2d to 2^d per lb. Temuka Ram Fair. — This annual fair was hold at Winchester last Thursday, when a considerable number of rams were yarded for sale. They have to report an utter absence of demand, and almost no lots were sold by auotion, but a few lots changed hands privately. Prices were not such as call for special report. Race Privileges. — These were sold at their rooms on Wednesday last, Mr J. D. Kett having purchased the grand stand booth at 4535, and the right to gate money at .£157 10s. The refreshment booth was bought by Mr Palmer at £6 10s, and the games to Mr P. J. Bell at £9. The two other booths were sold privately to Mr C. Bowden. Mr K. F. Gray reports for the week ended Friday 10th April, as follows : — On Wednesday, Bth inst. (m conjunction with the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.), he held a clearing sale of stock and implements at Kynnorsley, the property of Mr S. D. Barker, who is relinquishing farming. There was a good attendance of buyers, all parts of the district being well represented, but the prices obtained for the sheep were very unsatisfactory owing to thoir being m rather low condition. Cattle and implements brought very good prices. Sheep — 333 crossbred lambs sold at 4s 6d; 113 ewes and lambs (culls) at Is 9d each; 300 orossbrod ewes at 6s 3d, 111 do at 6s 9d ; 73 Leicesters at 9a, 41 Romney Marsh at 9s 3d, 36 Norfolk Downs at 12s 3d, 88 Shropshire Downs at 12s 6d, 91 at 13s, 53 at 15s, 31 South Downs atßs9d. Ewe Lambs: — 29 Leicesters 5s 9d, 17 Romney Marsh at 5s 9d, 13 Norfolk Down at 6s 7d, 55 Shropshire Down at 10s 3d, 53 South Downs at 15s. Ram Lambs : — Shropshire Downs — 5 at 2 guineas, 15 at 1{ guineas, sat J guinea, 14 at 1 a guinea, 13 South Downs at 2d of a guinea, 12 Leicester at i a guinea. Rams : — 5 at 3 guineas, lat 2 guineas, 5 at li guineas, 12 at 1 guinea. Cattle :— Milch cows from .£3 10s to £6 15s, 11 two-year-old cattle at £2 ss, 7 yearlings at jEI Is, 4 calvos at 10s 6d, polled Angus bull at .£3 15s, Ayrshire bull at £2 2s Gd. Pigs : —Sows with young— l at £3 Bs, lat .£2 7s Gd, 2at .£2 Is, 2at .62, 1 at .£l lss. Grey oats at Is 2d per bushel, Canadian oats at Is 3d ; seconds wheat 5s a sack. The implements realised fair prices. The leaseholds were submitted, but failed to find a purchaser. On Thursday the Ram Fair under the auspices of the Temuka and Geraldine Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held m their grounds at Winchester. There were a good many farmers present, but m very few cases were sales effected. There were yarded 258 rams and 799 owes, of which his entry consisted of 79 rams and 799 ewes on account of Messrs Andrew Grant, John Paterson, J. T. M. Hayhurst and others. He sold as under — 6 border Leicester rams at 2 guineas ; 7 English Leicesters at 5 guineas. The balanoo of his entry failing to reach the owners' reserves was passed m. Ewes — 350 first cross at 10s ; 143 crossbred at 5a 6d, and 306 do at 4s 3d.
