Gouk. Captain Worsp has been appointed master of t*ie Triumph. Iu September, 187G, Captain Worsp left sea life to take up tho onerous position of Marine Surveyor and Secretary to the Insurance Companies Association at this port, and ho has hold that appointment until tho present time. Captain Worsp is an old friend of the travelling public of New Zealand and Austiv 1 '':!, he having during the last 21 years been closely associated with this colony. He came otit to this port as chief of the ship Scoresby, then took service with the old Panama Company, and two years later was appointed to the command of the steamei Phce'^o. Ho subsequentlycommanded, seriatim, the steamers Lord Ashley, Auckland, Aire^ dale. Egmout, again was appointed to the Ashley, aiid then to tho Phoebo. and held the latter command for something like six years, resigning it to take charge of the Union Company's steamer Tanpo. Captain Worsp was not only a most popular master, but also a most fortunate one to boot, for throughout his career as .steamboat master, Captain Worsp has absolutely steered clear of accident and damage of any kind. Not one casualty even can be attributed to his account. There are few men of: so many years' service in an intricate trade who can claim so much credit. Mr Mclntyre (a gentleman who for many years held a similar position in J. Hoult's employ, ont of Liverpool) has beeu appointed to the important post of chief engineer. A Home paper says : — The twin screw hopper dredger — tho Melbourno— the largest and most powerful dredger yet constructed, was launched on the 17th February from Messrs W. Her bucket ladder measures 100 feet, weighing about 40 tons, and carrying 39 buckets on the chain, each holding one ton. The dredger ■will .lift, allowing for stoppages, about tiOO tons of soil an hour, and when running freoly 900 or 1000 tous. She wilj dredge to a depth of 35 feet below water line. The vessol is fitted as a twiu screw, having two independent acts of compound engines so arranged that cither or both will drive the bucket gear. The accommodation for the officers and crew is very comfortable, tho state rooms being abaft tho engines, aud the crew's cabins on the starboard side, alongside the well. The Melbourno was named by Miss L. Brown, the daughter of ono of the builders. The vessel was designed by and built under the superintendence of Sir John Coode, the consulting engineer of the Trust. At the lunch Sir John Coodo was represented by Mr William Matthews, C.E., and the Agent-tieueral for Victoria, the Chairman of the London Committee of the Trust by Mr Kingston, ono of tho staff of the Victorian Agency.
