(Bt Telegraph.) AtrcsiiAirD, April 5. The 6.8. Rotorua crossed the Manukau Bar at three this afternoon with the Southern portion of the San Francisco mails. Almost at the time the Magnetic sailed from Portland severe gales were experienced on the English coast, and it is thought that she may have encountered one of these and foundered. Mr Shapley, who is well known m Mew Zealand as formerly having chargo of the ' New Zealand cable station, Wakapuaka, and recently La Perouse, New South Wales, was a passenger by the Magnetic.
