CO RRESPON D ENCE.

QUALIFIED TEACHERS. TO THK EDITOR OF THK TIMARU HERALD. Bln, — One would imagine from certain random statements made by certain members of the Board of Governors that even they do not know the educational qualification of matriculated students. In jußtice to Misses Cooper, McLean and Fussell, let me state that matriculation counts for a D certificate. The Registrar of the University every year forwards to the Inspector-General the matriculation marks, and if they are at all fair they are accepted as equal to D. Now let us contrast these so called " pupil teachers " with others m the primary schools. Mr Murray who has refused the Head Mastership of the Timaru Public School is a Dl. Mr Wood, late of Temuka.and now the choice of the Timaru Committee, is a Dl. Or, to take better known examples, I may mention that Miss Forbes is a Dl, and Mrs Qrahaine, her successor, is slightly below her, being D 2. Mr Walker, of Waimataiti, is Dl. As Miss McLean is now nearly- ready to proceed to the first section of the B.A. degree, she is quite equal to a C certificate. I may point out what is not generally known, that an ordinai7 University degree counts for a B certificate ; while a degree m honors counts for an A certificate, or the highest qualification. Trusting, Sir, we shall hear no more absurd talk about " pupil teachers" m the eaae of matriculated students, I am, &c, A Pabent.
