(By Telegraph.) Auckland, April 1. At the enquiry into the stranding of the steamer Thomas Russell Captain Helander was exonerated. The enquiry into her wreck has been further adjourned. The wreck was sold to-day for £160 to Mr Hawkwood. The Ringarooma, from Sydney, passed a steamer, supposed to be the McCol, for Auckland, on the 30th ult. Mr Ackerman, of the Public Works Department, commenced to day to lay off the road leading from the entrance to tho North. Head reserve to the site of the batteries proposed to be erected on]the promontory. Fifty navvies are to be put on to-morrow, and a large concrete magazine is to "be erected.
