Timaru Herald Office, ' Tuesday Evening 1 . RAM FAIR. Mr E. R. Guinness, for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports aa follows : — Thi3 annual gathering took place to-day on the grounds of tho Agricultural and Pastoral Association. There was a large entry of various breeds, and, with the exception of a few pens, the bulk were old and second class. Lincolns, Romneys and merinos were verydifficult to quit, m fact being almost a drug m the market, while Leiceaters, being more sought after, brought fair prices. They were favored with an entry of 210. Although the attendance was fairly good, biddings were without spirit. Most of the lota were passed under the hammer, but subsequently found buyers at modified values. The following ia a list of tho lots sold: — 5 4-tooth Lincolna, ligs ; sdodo at 2Vga ; 7do do at ljgs ; Ido do at 2ga ; 47 old Lincolns at lg ; 5 fnllmonthed merinos at Us ; 2dodo at ,£1 : Ido do at 12a 6d ; 5 Leicesters at 4Vgs ; 17 old Lineolns at 10s 6d. Mossrs Maclean and Stewart report aa follows . — At the Annual Ram Fair, held on the grounds of the Timaru Agricultural amd Pastoral Association to-day, a large number of long-woollod and merino rams were entered for sale. They have to report tho demand as rather dull and prices somewhat under expectations. There was a fair attendance of buyers during the sale. They penned for sale altogether 530 head, viz. : — Border Leicestera 17, English Leiceaters 89, Lincolns 124, Merinos 155, Romney Marah 33, Southdowns 8, Shropshire Downs 4, on account of Meaßrs W. Grant, E. Menlove, G. G. Russell, C. N. Orbell, A. Pigeon, W. Moody, A. M. Clark, C. G. Tripp and J. Reid. The top price realised was 7ga for a Border Leiceater ram, 17 of which wore sold at from ljgs to 7gs. English Leicesters, they disposed of 64 head at from 4gs to sgs ; a few old culls at 103 6d ; Lincolns, 62 head found, buyers at from ljgs to 3gs ; 90 merinos were disposed of privately after the sale at a fair value ; Romney Marah rams, thoy placed 21 at from ligs to 2ga ; 2 Southdown rams were sold at 4Jga and s;gs, and 1 Shropshire Down at 6gs, — making atotal of 257.
