Australia, for San Francisco, via Auckland. Sir Henry Parkes has announced himself a candidate for the representation of Argyle electorate m the Legislative Assembly. He will be opposed by Mr Oaborne. Melbourne, March 26. The convict Barnes, who m January last made a confession that he had murdered Mr J. B. Slack, who it was believed had committed suicide, has undergone a searching examination, and was to-day committed for trial.
