The crew of the Thomas Russell have arrived from the stranded vessel. From particulars of the wreck furnished by Captain Helander, it appears he was at the time bound for Oreti Point, for the purpose of taking on board cattle for Auckland. She was not driven ashore by the force of the gale, but apparently got on a sunken reef through some mistake as to the depth of water. A man was heaving the load immediately before the vessel struck. An official enquiry is to be held at an early date. Wellington, March 25.
