NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING.

(By Telegraph.) Wellington, March 17. The weather to-day was very boisterons and heavy rain set m. The Carbine and Rifle team matches -wore commenced. The latter had completed two ranges out of the three, and the Rifles one out of three when an adjournment was made for lunch. After lunch the weather was bo bad that it was impossible to coDtinue tho shooting, and a postponement was made until to-morrow morning. During the afternoon the staff considered i protest lodged by Gunner Poralow, of tho Auckland carbine team, against the Napier iarbine team, on the grounds that two of the atter fired out of one carbine. After eonlideration, the protest was sustained, and ;he Napier team are therefore disqualified. Che staff also gave their decision m the pro:«sts lodged against Lieut. Furnell, of Wanganui. The charges of his having changed lis order of firing were dismissed, jut the protest against his having used two rifles m the third match, which counted for ihe Rifle Belt, was sustained. His score of 73 m this match has, therefore, been disillowed, and this throws him out of the twenty highest to fire the final stage for the championship. Furnell intends to contest ;he decision of the staff, and has applied to )e supplied with a full copy of the minutes >f the proceedings on which his score has icen disallowed. He asserts that when he lsed two rifles it was m the Wanganui natch, which did not count for the Belt. The matter will probably be brought before the Committee again to-morrow. At the adjournment for lunch the Carbines bad finished at two out of the three ranges, with the following result : — CARBINE TEA!!
