CHRISTCHURCH PRODUCE MARKET.

Tho following is tbo Christohurch Coru Exchange roport for the week ended Friday, tho 6th March: — Expectations of improved weather have not been at all realised. The torrent of' rain whioh f ell from Wednesday evening till Thursday morning have damped both the grain and the hopoa of tho farmers to a very considerable extent. Large areas m stook must be seriously injured hy the deluge, moro especially as the temperature is so high that sprouting muet inevitably follow. It is to be fearad that th« uncut wh«at will be »o beaten down a« to

entail great difficulty m reaping. Altogether, the outlook is very unpromising, and has cast quite a gloom over the agricultural districts. The only gleam of comfort is the prospeot of better prices for those who were fortunate enough to have early crops. The anxiety of farmers to seouro their crops has prevented their appearance m the market, consequently less business has transpired than is usual at this time of year. Sales have been confined principally to a few lines of early wheat and oats, while barley meets with a little more attention at below quotations. The demand for ryegrass seed is slackening slightly, buyers' requirements being nearly satisfied. The block between vendors and purchasers of cocksfoot is not quite removed yet, both classes holding firm to their values. Some fine peas aro now coming forward, but prices asked are not responded to. There is no alteration to note m regard to dairy produce.
