THE RACE FOR THE AUSTRALIAN CUP.
(Recoived 8 p.m., March sth.) Melboubitb, March 5. The second day's races of the Victorian Racing Club's Autumn Meeting was held today at Elemington. The weather was fine, and there was a fair attendance of spectators. The Governor was not present to-day. The following is the result of the race for the Australian Clip : — Atjstbaxian Crp, a handicap sweepstake of 20 soys each, 10ft, or 5 soys only if declared before the 2nd Feb., with 500 sots added. For three-year-olds and upwards. The second horse to receive 100 sots, and the third 60 sots out of the Btake. . Two miles and a quarter. Mr N. Wilson's b g Ringwood, 6yrs, 7st 81b ... 1 Mr E. G. Talbot's br h Sheet Anchor, 6yrs, 7stslb 2 Mr T. Henty's b c Stornoway, 3yrs, 6sfc 3 The betting at the post was even on Coronet, who led from the start, and was a dozen lengths ahead at the river. He was, however, beaten at the sheds and collapsed at the home turn, where Ringwood came up with a rush, and won by three-quarters of a length from Sheet Anchor after a most exciting race. Tinw— 4min ljsec. Malua. has been scratched for all engagements at this meeting.
