RUSSIA AND AFGHANISTAN.
ADVANCE OF RUSSIAN TROOPS. BRITISH PROTEST. [By Cable — Reuter's Agency.] (Per Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) [Received 4.10 p.m., March 4th. 1 London, March 3. In the House of Lords to-day Earl Granville stated that the Government had received information that the Russians m Central Asia have occupied ' Zulfika Pass, of the Hindoo-Khoosh mountains, and advanced within a few miles of Panjadeh, m Afghanistan, and that Sir Peter Lumsden, the British Commissioner on the frontier question, had advised the Afghans to resist any further advance on the part of the Russians. His Lordship added that the Government have urged the Russian Government to order its commanders to halt and make no further encroachments on Afghan territory. (Special to the Press Association.)
