(Br Telegeaph.) D.J.C. AUTUMN MEETING. Dumjdin, Feb. 26. The Dunedin Jockey Club's autumn meeting began to-day. The weather -was very favorable, though a strong easterly wind was blowing. ~Thc attendance numbered about 8000. Trenton broke away twice and delayed the start, and when tho flag fell he got away last. Minerva took the lead and presently Captain Webster got second place, with The Poet and July well up. Trenton soon got forward, and with Lady Emma, took a prominent position, Vanguard dropping back last. This order was not much disturbed until a mile had been covered and the stand reached a second time. Here Minerva was still m front, with Captain Webster second, pulling double, The Poet third, half a length ahead of Trenton and Nelson, the rest all m a bunch, except Vanguard and Lady Emma, who still brought up the rear. At a mile and a quarter Derritfc began to take the favorite up through his horses, but at the back of the course Minerva still sailed away m front. Captain Webster had, however, disappeared from his prominent position. The Poet went on second, with Trenton and Adamant at his girths, Wapiti and Nelson coming next, and Vanguard laying seventh. A littlo further on Minerva was collared by Trenton, who quickly passed her, but simultaneously Vanguard ran post the intervening horses, and splendidly disposed of Minerva m his turn. He got on terms with Trenton, and after a semblance of a struggle settled him with great ease, and won comfortably by a clear length and a half. Trenton was second, Minerva a fair third, Adamant fourth, The Poet fifth, Captain Webster sixth, July seventh, Lady Emma eighth, and Nelson and Wapiti together last. Time — 3min 53sec. Of £4205 m the totalisator £1186 was on Vanguard. The dividend inside (£2 tickets) was £6 4s, and outside (£1 tickets) £3 Bs. Sblling Race, of 60 soys ; one mile and a distance ; weight for age. Conundrum got the lead after the first four hundred yards, but at half a mile Leon had gone forward, and he held his position all the way home, Conundrum following him closely.
