The vessel was placed m quarantine. (By Telegraph.) Wellington, Feb. 25. The Colonial Secretary has received a cable message from Mr Edmund Paget, Secretary of the Board of Health at Sydney, stating that the steamer Ringarooma, from Auckland to Sydney, had boon quarantined yesterday there, m consequence of there being a caso of smallpox on board. It appears that the patient is one of the crew, and that on the last trip of tho steamer to Sydnoy he was two days m that port, and it is believed ho then contracted the disease. Tho outbreak of smallpox on board the Ringarooma from Auckland to Sydney, created some little excitement here, and the examination at New Zealand ports of each Sydney vessel will be most minute, and every precaution is to be taken to prevent the spread of tho disease into this colony.
