TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Temuka Road Board was held yesterday. Present — Messrs J. Talbot (Chairman), R. A. Barker, J. Austin, J. Paterson and M. Quinn. MIHrjTBS. Barker waited upon the Board to draw attention to an overflow of water from the drain extending from Mr Peterson's to the cross roads near Milford, partly caused by the culvert near the cross roads being too email. — The Surveyor stated that the culvert was very small, and also wrongly formed. It was resolved — " That Mr Patereon and the Surveyor visit the place and repotb at the next meeting." Mr A. Cox, junr., attended m reference to a road proposed to be made some years ago from Paries' road lo a road near Orari, desiring to know what had been done. Some discussion took placo as to whether the land required for the road had been purchased from Mr Rhodes. It was decided that the Surveyor should obtain information on the sabjeot. Mr J. Meyer attended end stated that, having sold certain sections m Arowbooua to Mr E. Vallender, be desired his (Mr Meyer's) name be erased from the rate roll m retprot of them. A letter being read from Mr Vallender, desiring the alteration, tho application was granted. Mr Upriobard waited on the Board to ask for something to be done to the creek behind his property Dear the Catholio Ohurob, where a quantity of stagnant water lay and became injurious to health. Resolved — " That the Surveyor and tbe Inspector of Nuisances take steps under the Publio Health Act." Mr Bissett attended to ask for a culvert to be put through Peony's road, so us to allow flood water to enter the Ohapi. In the course of conversation Mr Bissett said he* was compelled to make the application owing to a neighbor filling up thfl creek with gorse and allowing a private bridge which had fallen into tba creek to remain there. — Mr Barker was asked to visit the place and report at next meeting. Mr Barker here left the meeting. COBBBBPONDENOE. Correspondence was read us follow : — From Mr Bolton, alating that 1(3,950 eggs and 6936 birds had bee-n collected during the past month. From Mr S. Breadley, asking for a sum to be allowed him for 80ft of 6in pipes placed by him m front of the Orari Hotel ; also, stating that tbe culvert leading into the railway station was too small. Resolved — "That as the pipes were unauthorised they cannot be allowed for ; the Surveyor to report upon the culverl.." Mr Quinn here took his seat. From Mr Wm. Hooper, asking to have his name placed upon the rato roll for seotion 168. — Ordered to be attended to. From the Clerk to the Levols Road Board, advisicg that the amount claimed for repairs to tbe Opihi bridge would be paid at the next sitting of the Board. From the Manager of the Newlands ettt ite, informing tbe Board thtt tbe flood wuter has again broken aoross the road near Riilloston's but, civusing tbe shingle to enter tbe drain on (he low side of the road, so as to choke it. It wits resolved — " That the iihinglo be taken out of the drain." Fro3> tho Surveyor to the Goraldine Road Board, statirg that ho had visited tho bridge near llharp's, and that the Geraldjno Board would carry on the works on condition that the T< muko Board would bear half the cost ; also, and that it was proposed to extend the bridge 20 feet, and mnke a protective work on upper corner. From Mr M. Hansen, asking for a grunt of some drain pipea for a culvert at Mr Thomson's boiling doirri works. — Surveyor to look at Ihe place, and give planks or pipes if neoensary. From the Clark to the Geraldine County Council, ntating that the Board's application to close a road on tho Arowlienua estate cannot be granted until a formal plan and description of thn road is sent m to the Council. — The Surveyor » as direoted toobttiin platiß, etc. From the Paymnfter-General, advising that £17 14a (id had boen paid to tho credit of the Board as rateß on Grown lands for the year 188283. From Mr Langridge and other ratepayers, asking for repairs to be done on LangridgVs ro»d, and for the road to be shingled for about twnnty-fiye ohains j also fcr the formation of Bradford's road for about elevon chains. The Surveyor vaa directed to examine the rondß and call fi>r tenders for any part requiring immediate attention, and to report on the remainder at next meeting. BCHV3TOE'B BBPOBT. The Surveyor* repcrt was read as follows : — " I have the honor to report for tha month ending March 4th. The late rains have done a i;ood deal of damage to the fords m the rivers acd to the bridges. The south appronuh of the Opihi bridge has had more washed awsy, tied part of the sheet piling has fallen m the river. This work has become urgent. The footbridge at the Kakaliu river near Sharp's hat lost the western approach, and requires another span. The footbridge near the railway bridge has had about ten feet of the bank carried away, and another span is required. If a groin was placed on tho uppsr side of the road, it would keep the approaoh from injury. Tho ford at Eusor's has stood well, but part of the embankment has gone. This will require to be done at once. The road near Badhtm's and Thomas' requires re-forming for about 16 chains, and a drain made to carry ofl the water, which will miet present requirements. The proof copy of the map of the district is to hand, and is very complete. All the latest surveys are inolude i, and the sections acred. The publio oan he supplied m a few days with copies. Bates to the amount of £900 have been paid to date." 'Jhe following reimlutions were passed on the report :— " That the embankment ut Ensor's bo repaired." " That tenders at oniie be called for the necesaary work on Badham'B and Thomas' road." SENDEES. Tenders were received for the following contracts : — Contract 103— E. Counihan, £63 (auoepted) ; W. Fletcher, £69 17s 6d ; 11. Comer, £74. Contract 104— Wm. Greenaway, 4i 6d per chain ; C. McAuliffe, Is !}d per chain (accepted). HBTIBBMEST OF HBXBEBS. The Chairman mentioned that an election would be held m May for the return of two members, and a b&llot was taken to determine who should retire, resulting m Messrs Austin and Quinn being tmllot.ted out. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to tha amount of £120 8s lid were passed for payment. SAKITABT. The report of the Inspector of Nuisancos wai read r.nd approved. The meeting tlmn terminated.
