The following List, compiled from Government Statistics, shows the comparative yield of Grain during the last four years m Canterbury and m the County of Southland. The latter only comprises a portion of the old Provincial District of Southland, and does not include the Jacob's River District, the averages for which during the same period are — WHEAT. OATS. BARLEY. 29.8 35.5 33.0 per acre. LOCALiIT. WDKAT. OAT 3. IBRLT. 1830. Southland County 5,337 25.0 36.251 32.3 25.7 Canterbury .. 193,784 211.0 153,742 37.7 30.3 18S1". We ask Farmers and others, especially Small Farmers and Contractors with Farming Plant, to consider the following facts : — That a very few yeaiß ago land m the Timaru District was worth only £2 an acre, while now it would average nearer £10. That what haa made it increase m value is settlement. That on the small holdings they have here all they can make is a bare living, and that m ten yeaif' time they will be so many years older, but no better off than they are now. That they should consider whether, m the interests of their families and their old age, they would not be wiss to sell their small high-priced farms here, which cannot increase much more m value, and purchaso larger one? m Southland, off which they not only can make a better living, but which must increase m value as settlement progresses, and leave them rich and independent by that means alone, and THE TERMS Oa which we are offering the Land Puts it within the reach of everyone.
