Aftor the ininutßs of lust moelirg had boen road the following roportf wore dealt with : — Froai tho Head Master, bating that tile numbiir of boys on tho roll was 281 aud the avenigo attendance. 237, and that some articles were required for the school. From tho Hond Mistress, giving tho roll numbor for girls' tchool us 2H3 and working average 216.7. Shu stated Miss I. Pearson had b.ion appointed to take ohargo of olasues till Miss Goodor's arrival. From the Mintross of tha Infant Sohool, roporlinß that tho roll number was 400 and av»rai;o attendance for thu month .118.7. Bho brought under the CoiDmiliee's notico the fact I hut two or three ohildren were very
s irregular attendant;, and requested that the 1 usual steps be taken m the matter. The following resolutions were passed : — Moved by Mr Gibson, seconded by Mr r Stone — " That the application of Mrs King t for the u»e of the 'Board room, for musio ] leseonß, be granted." 1 Moved by Mr Howe, seconded by Mr j Rowley — " That Mrs Barker's account be paid on condition that the school be t thoroughly oleaned to the satisfaction of the . Mistress." Moved by Mr Gibson, and seconded by IMr Rowley — " That Mobbm Howe and Stone 1 be appointed Visitors to the Side school, and > they are authorised to appoint another janitor , m place of Mrs Barker, dismißsod for neglect I of duty." 1 Moved by Mr Gibeon, seconded by Mr Stone — '' That tbe Head Master be instructed ; should any teacher prove inefficient, or be 1 absent, from any cause whatever, to report , the case at once to the Committee." Moved by Mr Howe, seconded by Mr Incram — " That Messrs Bruce, Stone, and , Hill be a sub-Committee to arrange with the Head Master so as to introduce Bible reading into the school out of school bourß, and that the several minintera of the town be invited to co-operate with the said Committee on tbiß matter." Moved by Mr Hill, seconded by Mr Stone — " That the resolution passed on June 4th last r^the application from tbe ministers of the diiTerent denominations, to be allowed to 1 give Bible instruction out of regular sohool hours be rescinded, and that tbe Baid ministers be informed that the Committee, are willing m future to accede to their request, subject to arrangements being made with the Head Master, bo as not to interfere with the disoipline of the school." Moved by Mr Gibson, and seconded by Mr Stone — " That the Chairman be requested to write to tbe Board, drawing their attention to the very indecent state m which the boys' closets are left for want of a screen, and request them to allow their Architect to complete it ; and be instruct the janitor to prune the trees around the ground to the height of three feet from the ground, and to scrub the dado around the school rooms ; and tbe Visitors Bre authorised to get cheap blinds put up m the infant class roomB." Accounts amounting to £8 Os 3d were pasted for payment, and tbe meeting terminated.
