Thb Comet and the Weathbh.— A Mr Henry Caton writes to the Sydney Town and Country Journal as follows: — "As. l very clearly rememberheing told nearly BO years ago, that during tha Tisitatiori of the comet, of 1812, that the weather m England was excessively hot' and dry, may we not look for similar weather upon its re-appearance at the present time ? and if so, it is of the greatest importance that all persons should jbe. very careful nol; to waste the water:, I think 1 am correct m stating that some of the best springs of water became , exhausted during the hent and dronght experienced m England m 1812. 1 understand that the presentcomet approaches our earth nearer than any other comet has yet done. 'To be forewarned is 'to be forearmed."' Exactly so. And wo hope that we may look for hot and dry, even excessively, hot and dry, weather to come with the comet,- and if the best spring of water we have now, the overhead: one, wore exhausted for a month or so, most of •us would be suited to a T. Come along comet! Mr Caton' may have found consolation amid possible aneers at his remarks, m the fact that the weather, .m Australia has been " excessively hot and' dry" this summer.
