WINCHESTER,
At the, annual meeting of householders of tbe Winchester sohool district., on Monday evening, I here was a large attendance. Mr G. Taylor was voted to the chair, and after reading the advertisement calling tha meeting, be called upon Mr Murray to reed the report of the retiring Committee, wbioh was as fo! ows: — i
" Y our retiring Committee bag to lay their annual report of their proceedings before the meeting.
" Baltjnce-sbeet. — The babince-sbeet ac- j companjing this report, which Tins been duly audited by the Secretary to the Board of Education, shows a credit falanoe at the Bank of 4s lid, against wbioh there aro several outstanding accounts amounting to £6 Bs. This debit balance will require the attention of the incoming Committee, as it has been' found impossible to make any saving from the annual allowance lor incidentals, although this fund has been slightly raised by the Board for the present year. "Committee Meeting*.— Your Committee have met eight times during the past year, and the average attendance has been 89 per cent. ;
" Attendance at School. — 'The attendance has been fairly well maintained' during the year, except during tbe last ' quarter, when tho preralence of whooping tongh had a bad effect otr tbe goneral average.
" Inspector's Report. — The ■ Inspector's report han not been so satisfactory this ■'• y ear as conld have been wished, but taere were many extenuating oircumstanees t3 be urged m favor of the teaching staff, as will be seen by the Chairman's letter to tbe Hoard of Education of ihe 22nd of November last. It shonld also be noted that application was made to the Bowd, at the request; of tlio Head Master, to havi> the school re-examined daring the current month, but owing to their arrangements with a temporary inspector, this owild not be arranged, four Committee are glad; to noto the despatch with 'which the Inspector has furnished the Committee with tbe 'animal report, it being st great improvement on former years. ''Improvements. — A pieto-t fence has hoen placed on the western bonndnry of the sohoql ground, and the retiring Committee wonld suggest to those elected the necessity of looking' out for an increase of playground, as the present one is quite inadequate for the school!" ' •■■' The Chairman then put the motion-r. "That the reoort and balarioe-il'ea* -wread be adopted." With a slight alteration' the moMoii was carried unanimously. ■•' : Tbe following persons weru then nominated . for election on the new Coir.mittee r 1 — Messrs Q. Teyler, H. Spurdon, B. Smith, J. Northern, B. Crillam, W. Bel!, P. Billite, W. Carstoh, and W. Klee. • : A ballot was taken, Mewre Be Henrj" *nd J. Peterson acting as scrutineers. The ballot resulted as follows :— ff.
