JOCKEY CLUB.
A genoral meeting of the members of the Bouth Canterbury Jockey Club was held on Thursday night at the Grosvenor Hotel. Present — Messrs R. StanFell (m the chair), J. Meikle, M. EYuhauf, J. R. Stansell, X. Hall, J. 8. Gibson, A. J. Parsonß, W. S. Armitage, M. Jonas and E. E. Taylor.
After the Secretary had stated the business to come before the meeting, viz., to alter two rules of the Club, Mr Hall moved, Mr M«ikle eeoonded, and it wae carried — " That the number of stewards be increased to twelve." It was also decided that the Committee be increased from Dine to eleven members, and that the racecourse trustees be not ex ojjicio members of Committee, as formerly. This was all the business to come before the general meeting, and a Committee meeting was then held. Present — Messrs ft. Stansell, M. Jonas, E. E. Taylor, J. E. Stansell, T. Hall, W. S. Armitago and D. Maclean. Messrs J. W. White, and T. Hall retire from the Committee m consequence of the new rule prohibiting the trußleeß from eing ex ojjicio members of Committee. Mr B>. K. Taylor also retired from the Committee. The three vacancies on the Committee were then filled up by tbe election of Messrs. T. Hsll, J. W. White, and W. 8. Armitage. The following Stewards were elected for the current year:— Messrs T. Hall, E. G. Karr, M. Jonas, D. Maclean, A. Ferry, R H, Rhodes, B. K. Taylor, A. St. Q. H»mer*ley, J. W. White, E. Bicbardaon, junr., C. W. Orbell, and W. S. Armitage. After some little conversation it was decided to increase the money to be given m stakes at uext autumn meeting to £1000. A programme was then drawn up for the meeting m April next. Six races were put down for each day, and it was decided that one of the events on the first day should be a steeplechase for £150, and that on tbe second day there Bhould be another steeplechase for £100, and a hack hurdle race. The Timaru Cup web incroased from £200 to £250, and tbe S.O.J.C. Handicap from £150 to £200. It was resolved that the handicaps for tbe second day's races should be published on tbe evening of the first day's races. The Secretary was requested to make application to the Board of Trustees for the use of the course for tho autumn meeting. Messrs Hobbs and Goodwin's tender for working totalizators at tbe meeting was accepted.
A number of minor matters were then cod aidered, after which tho meeting adjourned.
