GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of tbe Board was held on Tuesday, the Oth October, m the office, Geraldine. MBMDBUa FBBSBNT. Mr Wm. Postlethwaite (Chairman), Messrs Wro. Upton Slack, John Kelland, Wm. McCool, £69; Tim Sugrue, £56 13s; D. Guldun, £48 ; John FiSeld, £43 8s (accepted). No. 83, Barker's road— D. Guldan, £28; B. Trumper, £28 ; L. Coogan, £16 ; Walter Qaiger and W. Fly, £14 (accepted). No. 84, Ward's road— T. Herlihy, £5 14s 6d (accepted). No. BG, Wells' road. Tenders too high ; fresh ones to be invited. COBBEBPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and From the Steward oi Reserves, Christchurch, dated 13th September, with reference to obtaining a gravel reserve m teeerre 1191, informing tbe Board that the only way- was under the authority of tbe Public Works Act 1876. Resolved — "That the Board will tuts steps under the Publio Works Act 1876." From Mr O. G. Bradley and a number of ratepayers, requesting the Board to open a road from Connolly's to tbe Kakahu schoolhouse | also to make the Redcliff road good. Resolved — " That the work stand over until next month to allow the members of the Board to view the road." From Mr James Millar, dated 9th October, asking payment of £10 for damage done to his dray m the Katabu river. The account was read, but the Board did not recognise their liability. From Mr B. Wooffenden, dated Bth October, asking for the water to be taken into tbe river-bed at the etone reserve at Pleasant Valley Point which comeß off tho downs. Resolved — "That the Overaeer carry out the suggestion." From Mr Brophy, applying for T. O'Connor to be kept on aa a surfaceman. From the Property Tax Commissioner, Wellington, dated 7th September, asking to have the mimes and properties recently attacho i to the Temuka District struck off the Rate Roll. The Clerk said ha had attended to the Binio. INTKBVIEW9. Mr R. Taylor had an iutorview with tho Bo&rd with reference to the drainage of the township. Resolved— "That steps be tuken to compel the parties ciusing any nuisance, to remove the samo." Mr Bailey waited upon tho Board with regard to a drain leading into his property. Resolved — "That a deputation of the Board view tho placo and Bee what is necessary to be done." Mr Alex. MnDjnild aßked tho Board to allow him to put big stones out of bis padiock at the Orari upon tbe aido of tho road. Resolved — "That permission bo granted." OVEBSEEB'S BKrOET. The Overseer's report was read and conlidered, and the following resolutions passe I ihereon : — (1) The reipon assigned why 3ha»'s road was not completed m contract lime is deemed satisfactory ; (2) Middlemus' road is m progress m obtaining a gravel reserve ; (3) Plantations doalt with, m reply to Mr M. Fitzgerald's letter; (4) the Board ipprove of old plantations being cleaned ; (6) Overseer to arrange with Mr Howe ie lamming wator up. SANITARY. The Inspector of Nuisances' roport was read and approvod, the. sanitary state of tho listrict being good (the town excepted). Ihe Inepeetor to tako Blepa to havo nuisances m the town removed. KAKAntT FOOTBMDOB. Proposed by Mr Kelland, seconded by Mr Flatman, and carried — "That the Overseer Mamine the old footbridge over tho Kakahu •iver, at Bradlej'a, and report whether it irould not bo preferable to build a new bridge •uitabla for driving sheep and riding over m loot! time instead of repairing the old etruclure." RIVEB KNCBOACHMENTB. Mr Posllethwaite laid before the Board a plan adopted m tho River Hutt, Wellington, \t it might be of service m the Orari riverJed to prevent tho river encroaching. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £-13-1 lit lid wero passed for payment. ADJOURNMENT. Tho Board then adjourned until Tuesday, he 13th November, at 10 a.m.
