RESIGNATION OF THE HON. THE PREMIER.
[Br TELE9BAPH.] Wellinqtok, Sept. 23. The Hon. Fredk. Whitaker yesterday afternoon tendered to the Governor his resignation as Premier, owing to private business requiring his attention. The resignation wai accepted by His Excellency, who thereupon sent for Major Atkinson and entrusted him with the duty of forming a new Cabinet. Major Atkinson undertook tha taßk, and will to-morrow submit the names of bis proposed colleagues to His Excellency for approval. Mr Whitaker left for Auckland m the Hinemca this morning.
