Further diplomatic parleying has taken place between the Marquis Taing and M. Lafour, Minister of Foreign Affairs, regarding the Franco-Chinese difficulty ai Tonquin. The Chinese Ambassador has drawn up a series of proposals for the settlement of the question, and submitted them for decision by the French Government. A cabinet meeting is to be held on Monday next, 10th inst., to discuss the matter. London, Sept. 8. The catalogue at to-day's wool sale compriied 0400 bales. The market is dull." Mr Gladstone is absent, cruising on the Scotch coast, aud is not expected to return to London for some time. San Francisco, Sept. 8. The P.M.S. City of New York, with the homeward mails, dated Auckland, Aug. 14th, arrived here yesterday.
