Timaru. Herald Office, Saturday Evening. . AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the week ended Saturday as follows : — Horaes. — A small entry of horses was to-<lay booked for aale at their yards, about 35 having been offered. They report a good demand for yormg draughts, and .satisfactory prices are obtained for these. On account of Mr E. Evans, Pareora, they to-day submitted a team comprising 7 first-class mares and geldings, and sold, with one exception, the lot at prices from L23 to L32. They also sold a number of other draughts at from L2O to L26. For harness horses and hacks, at present the . demand is dull, and nnless those offered havo something specially to recommend them, low rates are current. On account of Mr G. C. Miles, they to-day sold hi3 well-known hunting mare Glenrowan at L32, Mr Brown being the purchaser. They also quitted a few hacks at from HO to Ll i. Sheep.— There is little alteration in the demand or price for store sheep since they last reported. The wolcomo rain whioh fell during the week will cause the grass to spring rapidiy, and consequently, will tend also to improve the enquiry for good store sheep. At Studholme Junction aale, last Monday, they yarded abont 1000 cross-bred hoggets, bnt only succeeded in placing a line of about 250 at 10s 3d. They have also placed privately during ths week a mob of about 40*3 merino awes at a satisfactory figure. Fat Sheep — Prioes for prime quality are on the increase, and ownors are holding out rather than sell at present, in the anticipation of a still further rise. They quote prime mutton at about 2id per lb. Cattle.— They offered at Studholmo Junction sale, last Monday, a line of abont 60 mixed cattle, bnt prices offering were considerably under their value, and they ware passed in. The dcirand is dull, feed being as yet scarce, bnt business will beyin to improve as spring advances. Fat Cattle— There i3 little change in tho market during the week. Good beef is worth about 25s psr lOOlbs. Wool, Skins, Tallow and Hides.— They held their naual fortnightly sale last Wednesday, at which they catalogued 1150 skins, a few bags, and 1 bale of wool, 12 sacks tallow, and a number of hides. They report a falling off in prices for skin3, of nearly fid under prices current at their former sale. They sola best finality half-bred and merino skins at from 3s 3d to 43 4d ; medium, at from 2s 3d to 2s Bd. Odd lots of crosa-bred wool sold from 4d to 6d. Tallow, from 2d to 2jd. Hides, from 3d to 3Jd per lb. Messrs William Collins and Co. report a large entry of prodnce and general merchandise at their regular weekly market and auction to-day. The attendance of buyers wa3 above expectation, consequently mo3t of tho lines entered found purchasers at the following flgnres :— Derwent potatoes, 30s to 45s per ton, per sack -la ; onions. 8s 6d per case oqual to L25 per ton ; fowl wheat, 5s 6d to 8s per sack ; Tartarian oat3 (faulty), la 4d per bushel ; farmers' flour, L6 per ton ; millers' Lll, in 501b bags; bacon pigs, 701b to 801b each 3d to 3£d, 120Jb to 1501b each 4d to 4id per lb ; eggs, Od :por dozen ; fowls, tough birds 23 to 2s 6d, young roosters 3s Gd to 4s per pair; ducks, 4s per pair; turkoys, 5s to 15s per pair ; pigeons, 4s 6d per dozen j cock canaries, 8s to 12s each ; box teas, 12s to 14s. Household furniture and a general assortment of sundries were quitted at very satisfactory rates. '
