THE MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
TO TUB BDITOE OF TUB TIMIBTJ HBB4LD,
Sib, — Will you kindly allow me space ia your valuable column! to correct a false statement made by the Clerk of the Mount Feel Bond Board at their meeting held on the
20th July, m reference to my letter calling their attention to the state of the ford m the cre«k leading to my place. When he Ma'.ed to the Board that the statements made by me were gross misstatements of the Btato of the road and ford, as all the damage done by the late florid hnd lean substantially repaired, and the fcrd was at present m very good repair, whereas Mr Irvine mukos me to be telling falsehoods to clear his own neglect m not properly supervising the work. I cannot allow it to pass unnoticed wilhout correcting his misstatemtDt. If Mr Irvine't eyesight is failing he should take a holiday for a twelvemonth to regain his strength, and he may then be nble to see better, for if the work appears finished m his sight it don't tn mine or anyone else's who has seen it. They all s»y it is a ratcally piece of work that can speak foritself.
I would greatly like to know if this gentleman is paid a talary of £255 per year for making misleading statements to the Board. If that is the way the ratepayers are going to have their grievances complied with, I think it high time we had some fresh blood on the Board, and not be dealt with by formidable foes, who squanderthe ratepayers moDey to male roads to suit their own convenience, whilst a ratepayer who asks for a minll trifle to be done (o a road which is blocking the highway to his homestead is treated m this manner by a negligent overseer.
I am, &c, EUGENE LOEQKLLT, Peel Foreft,
