He estimates the revenue for the current financial year at £563,000, and the expenditure at £519,000. The surplus will be applied to the reduction of 33 per cwt on sugar, 3d per lb on tea, and the abolition of the duty on machinery. A new loan of one million is to be raised for public works. Melboukne, Aug. 2. The Argus has despatched a special correspond* 1 nt to Madagascar to report on tho events in that country. Sir Thomas Mcllwraith, Premier of Queensland, has requested Mr Service to summon a convention of delegates from the various colonies to consider the annexation question. lu tlio Assembly last night, Mr Service, in reply to a question, said that he believed that some of the Irish informers were on board the steamship Pathan, but he confessed that he was nonplussed what to do in the matter.
