The steamer Pathan has arrived here from England, and it ia stated that nmong hor pasßongers are the Phceuix Park informers, Cavanagh, Smith, Murphy and Kelly, travelling under assumed names. The news, however, has not yet been confirmed. [Received 10 p.m., July 31st. | Melbourne, July 31. The following horses have been scratched for tho Melbourne Cup :— King Charles, Spread Eagle, Guesswork, Achilles and Rodbank. The Melbourne manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited), reports of the local grain market as follows : — Wheat ia quoted at 4s 9d to 4s lid for shipping parcels. Tho market is very depressed. Malting barley is m fair demand at from 5s to 69. New Zealand oats are quieter, but steady. Feeding sorta are worth 2s 9d to 3s Id, and milling do 3a Id to 3a 2il. New Zealand oats under bond are slow of sale at 2a Id to 2« 3d.
