AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS.

Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for tho past week aa follows : — Horses — Their entry to-day was the smallest for some time hack, and with a few exceptions m draughts tho quality was inferior. Eeally good draughts were m demand, and all sold at fair values, the top prico of the day being .£44 for a very fine fonr-year-old draught golding, tho property of Mr Owen Murphy. Old and inferior draughts are unsaleable at any price, while the demand for thorough good workors ia improving slightly. They quote— Best draughts at from i! 25 to £±l ; medium, ,£l6 to .£2O ; hacks and light harness horses, from .£8 to .£l7. Cattle — At Studholme Junction monthly sale on Monday the entry was a small one, and the demand for beef was brisk. They sold 20 head steers and heifers at from £6 10s to £7 10s, and a small lot of yearlings at 40s. At the Washdyke yards on the same day, the entry was under the average, and with the exception of five steers every head was disposed of at full rates. Pat steers realised up to £8 per head ; cows, m milk and springing, from £3 7s 6d to .£ll 103 ; one and a half year old cattle, at 455 ; calves, 21s. At "Winchester, on Thursday, there was very little business done on account of the farmers m the district being busy at home getting their wheat sown, and were thereforo unable to attend the sale. They quote beef at 23s per lOOlbs. Sheep— Thero is no alteration and very little bn3iness to report m store sheep. The demand still continues dull, with little prospect of improvement before spring sets m. At the Washdyko, they sold merino ewes m lamb at 5s Id, and a small lot of merino wethers at 4s 5d ; cross-bred wethers, fat, at 133 Od. At Winchester, they sold a line of merino wethers, grand quality, at 11s. Messrs E. Turnbull and Son report as follows : — Business during the week has been very dull, and principally confined to supplying the small local demands for horse feed and farm produce. To-day they held a sale of rum and earthenware,' on account of tho Collector of Customs, and of produce and miscellaneous goods, on account of various owners. There was a very largo attendance, and Mr Thomas Turnbnll, who entered the rostrum for the first time as a " Knight of the Hammer," had no difficulty m disposing of every lot submitted, and a larger amount was passed through the auctioneers' books for tho day's sale than there has been ov a Saturday for some months past. Tho quarter-cask of rum fell to an outside merchant's bid at 18s 6d per gallon, and the earthenware, both of useful and decorative descriptions, realised very fair prices. A good, strong, useful double-seated buggy wa3 knocked down to a bid of .£29 10s. A double set of strong trap harness realised £0, and other lots of a similar description sold equally well. They quoto for farm and other produce : — Cheese, all picked, 7d per lb • butter, 9d ; onions, l§d to 2d s potatoes, 5s to 5s Gd per sack ; Lapstone kidneys, for seed sell readily at Id per lb ; fowls' corn, from 6s to 9s per sack, according te quality ; oats Is Od per bushel ; turkeys, 7s Cd to 103 per pair for plump young birds ; a good demand for fowls and ducks, bnt none offoring. Messrs William Collins and Co. report a good demand for all classes of produce and general sundries at their regular weekly market and auction to-day. They quote: Potatoes, 353 to 50s per ton ; onions, 15s par cwt, with a rising market ; fowl wheat, 5s to 8s per sack ; flour, 18s per sack ; bacon pigs, 3d to l^d per lb; large pigs are quite unsaleable ; beef averaged 20s per cwt ; sides merino mutton, 3s ; bacon, 5d to 7d per lb ; honey, m large casks, 3Jd to 3£d per lb ; fowls, Is 6d to 3s 6d per pair ; geese, 5s to 63 ; turkeys, gobblers 15s, bens 5s to Gs ; duck 3, 3s 6d to. 4a ; butter, Is to Is 3d per lb ; eggs, Is Id tola 3d per doz ; box teas, 12s to 14s. Chinaware, an invoice of first-olass watches and jewellery, clothing and furniture, were quitted daring the day at fair values.
