TEMUKA BOAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, the 3rd February. MEMBBBS EBESBHT. Messrs Talbot (Chairman), Barker and Quinn. minutes. Tbo minutes of the lost meeting were lead and confirmed. IKTEBVIEWS. Air Robert Wood, sen., attended at the Board with reference to ti formor app!icat : on for constructing a bridge on the road at Milford, to enable him to get on to hia land. Resolved — " That the Surveyor see Mr Oldfield on tbo matter, and report next Board doy." Air C. BcsMtt applied to have some repairs tlono to the first pectin of Stewart's road. Tho Surveyor was instructed to have th» work done provided the oast did sot exceed £ A deputation from the Maoris interviewed tho Board relative to an application they made a month ago for compensation for land used by the public for traffic during the time tho Opilii bridgo m under repair. Resolved — " That Mr Norton having repre» sented that tlie land m question belonged to him, the Board had recompensed him for tho uso of it, and under the circumstances the Board advised tho Maoris to apply to him on tho subject." Mr A. Colvill, attended to n«k tho Board to allow him somo rmall compensation for the loss of time he hud sustained through the difficulty of being supplied with timber to carry out his contract at Milford. The Board decided that they could not entertain the application. Mr J. McCatl complained to the Board that ho being a sub-contractor under one Kennedy hid done a considerable amount of work on the contract, and that the Surveyor refused to pass it or to certify to any .payment on account. The Board, alter hearing tho Surveyor's explanal ion, decided that they could not in* tcrfcrc m the matter, but that the applicant must look to Kennedy, who employed bid, . for his remedy. KOLLESTON EOAD DBAIK. • Mr Barker having brought to the notice of. tho Bonrd tho matter of the amounts due from thojo interested m tho Rolleston road drain, tho Chairman was instructed to send each person interested an account for the 25 per cent guaranteed by them. MR M)W'S COMPLAINT. Mr Barker naked what had been done with reference to obtaining a legal opinion with reference to Mr Low's complaint. As no tction had been taken m the matter, it was ordered to be attended to as soon as possible. BOAI> AT EPWOBTH. An application having been made to repair a road at Ep worth, the Surveyor was instructed to report on the matter by next Bonrd day. QOBBB ONBOADS. Eesolved— " That Messrs White and Jameson's opinion be obtained m re gorse notices having regard to tho mode of procedure tho Board should adopt." , THE OPISI BRIDGE. Mr Barkor moved, air Quinn seconded, and

it was adopted— "That Ibe Levels Boad Board be again oommunicated with, requesting tbem to co-operato wiih this Board m bridging the Opihi river, and Hint should they again <Wino to assist-, an application be made to the Geraldine County Council, requesting them to construct the briilge forthwith themselves, or authorise tome R«ad Board to do so, charging the Boards inlercsted with the cost of th« sime."' DISCOUNTS. Mr Barker moved, Mr Quinn seconded, and it was ndoptrd— " That m future 2\ per cent bo taken ofß all nceounts rendered for goods supplied, as tho Board should have tho tame consideration given them as private individuals." COBBBSPOHDBKCB. The following correspondence was read: — From Mr S. Sibly, asking for payment for some shingle used at a bridge near Stovn«on'»; alto, a refund of his deposit, which bad became forfeited to the Bonrd. Resolved— " Tb»t the Board's former decision on tho matter be adhered to." ■ From Butler and Devane, asking for an extension of lime.— Granted. Front Mr Job Brown, asking that Dan! and Caitatreels be thingled. The Board resolved to adhere to their former decision. From the Poundkeeper, asking for a little timber for certain improvements at the pound. — Granted. From Mr W. Chapman and eight others, •iking to have the foothpath m Allnutt street formed.

The Surveyor was instructed to report on the tarns next Board day. From the Poundkeepor, agreeing to collect the yard fees arranged to bo charged for the use of tbo pound, and aeking if ho could charge for unsold as well as told cattle. Ordered — "That all cattle yarded be charged for." From the Manager of the Bank of >*ew Zealand, slating that a fixed deposit for £2000 fell m on th« 2Ut inst.

Ordered — " Thot the amount be carried to the district fund account."

From the Ashburton County Council, asking for this Board's share towards the salary of the ferrymen at th« Bangitata. Besolved — " That tna amount be paid nnd tte duncil bo r-.ferred to the Geraldine County Council for futuro payments." bubybtob's bbport. The Surveyor's report having been read, the following works were agreed to bo ("one : — Be-forming Denmark street, Arowhenua township. Tho work asked for by Mr JUadhamtobe done if Mr Badham consents to contribute 25 per cent of the cost. ACCOUKTS. Cheques for the sum of £1008 10s lid vt ere passed for payment. TBNDEBS. The following tenders were accepted: — No. 101, footpaths at Winchester— W. Fletcher ; shingling at 2a 7d por yard, formation at 10s per chain. No. 102, footpaths, Wilmeshurst street — \ x> high, fresh tenders to be called. 21b. 1, filling creek, Woodhead's — Thomas •.nail, £22 10s. ' No. 2, picking and breaking stone;, South road— T. Molloy, £48. No. 3, fords, Geraldine road— T. Molloy, £45. No. 4, bridge, Waitohi road — John Langford, £59. APPOINTMENT. Mr George Bolton was appointed Inspector of Nuisances at £25 per annum, and aleo Collector of Bates at the following commission, vus. : — On shilling rate, 2J per cent ; on ninepenny rate, 2 6-6 th do ; on sixpenny rate, 4i do j on threepenny rate, 8 J do. The Board then adjourned.
