The race meeting held at Pleasant Point yesterday, attracted to »his pretty little place between 300 and 400 perions, many of whom came from Timaru and Temuka. There is not the slightest doubt that there would hare been a larger attendance if a mid-day train had been run on such a special occasion, as the large number from Timaru, who came by rail, bad to start at seven o'clock m the morning, and consequently to put up with tbe extreme cold produced by the previous night's hard froit. The weather, however, grew warmer as the day wore on, and one and all seemed to thoroughly eDjoy tbe racing, which was the

hot ever yc-f. witnessed ut 'ho Point ; and the Stewards uro lo bo congratulate:! on the success which linn attended their effort ■< to provido v good day's sport for the public. Owing to the sharp turns, the ciurso wai not. a g'*od one, nnd a much better could have been obtained if the Stewards had not wisely chosen to hold tho meeting close to the township. A protest was cnterei by Mr Murta^h, the owner of Black Prince, and who rode him, against Deceiver being handed the stakes, on the ground that Uobbs had jostled him, but alterwurds wished to withdraw it, as it seemed to bo the feeling of iho Stewards thut it would not bo entertained. Mr Lanaghan's Polly udded to her victory m the Maiden Plate, by also winning tho Publicans' Handicap ; Gambler again running second to her. Only three horses showed up for tho Convolution, which was won by Mr V. Goodman's Alma ; but it w»a reolly a good race, the homes keeping well together for the greater part of tho way.
