Seconp Day. Invercabsill, May 8. The Southland Coursing Club's meeting was continued at Morton Mains to-day. The weather during the early part of the day was magnificent, but shortly after noon squally winds and occasional heavy rain set m, causing an almost complete cessation of the sport. There was only a moderate attendance on the ground, and there were no special features m the coursing. The most exciting and finest course during the day was one between Brigadier and Lilly m the All-Aged Stakes. They were slipped to a fine buck bare, and the courso was by far the best seen m the district m the opinion of Mr C. E. Lloyd, the Judge. It extended over two miles of country, and m the end resulted m a kill. Brigadier did the whole of the work for the first two minutes, turning the hare again and again. Lilly theii took up the running, and scored some few points, but- Brigadier eventually won. This course was admitted to be the best of the season as yet. ST. lEGKB STAKES. First Tics. Thibd Dat — Fbidat, Mai 9. There was only a very moderate attendance at Fleminglon at the coursing to-day; m fact, the assemblage was almost limited to those who had dogs to run. Hares, a* bifo-e, were scarce, and it was with some difficulty that the necessary number could be raised to allow of the four ties being run off. The first event decided was between Mr Tapper's Brigadier and Mr Surman's Gazelle, one of the ties for the All-Aged Stakes. Both dogs got awuy well together, but Gazelle rapidly overhauled Brigadier, and led to the hare, which was a poor one. On a turn occurring, however, Brigadier clean passed the hare, and killed ; but he was not nble to recovorhia lost points. Mr Surman's Gyp, and Mr Kingeland'o Kip were next slipped. The course proved a very short one, Gyp securing the hare without the slightest difficulty. This decided tho All Aged Stakes, iMr Surman's dogs being first and second, thus doing away any necessity for running a deciding heat. lie consequently takes the prize awarded to tho winner, £34, and also thit ' which goea to the runner-up, £17. | Brigadier and Rip take £5 10a each. The St. Lcgpr stakes for puppies were then run off. To Kooti commenced by running a bye. Beferea then tried conclusions with Battler, both dogs belonging to Mr Sufton, the former proved himself to be the best of the two. Beforoe then faced Te Kooti for the deciding event, the rebel annihilating Mr Sutton's dog, after a long chase across the country. Mr Hay's. Te Kooti was thereforj adjudged the winner, and takes £34, Mr Sutton, with Beferee, the runner-up, taking £17. The winner of three courfc3 (Mr Sutton's Battler) takes £9. Two winners of two courses, Maritana and Harmony, take £4 each. Tli'ib concluded the meeting. Throughout, Mr O. E. Lloyd, the judge, gave almost universal satisfaction by his decision?, and the various other official personages connected with the affair have pleased all and sundry by their excellent management.
