It is semi-officially Btated that Shere Ali is now m Turkestan, and that he will receive the sympathy and hospitality of Russia, but that the idea of Russia's mediation on his behalf id illusive. Jan. 13. The excitement amongst the natives caused by Gt-neral Roberts' victory is subsiding. General Roberts has decided lo garrison tho fortress of Khost, and provision it for two months. London, Jan. 11. Money is plentiful. The demand for discount is slack. Bank minimum unchanged. Three mcnlhs' bills, 4 per cent. The bank reserve is steadily rising, ;ind is now over ten and a half millions. The Bank of England advanced the Government three and a half millions. Tiie stock market is easy. Consols are rising, the present quotation being 95|. Australian securities ate remarkably firm. The corn market is unchanged. Grettin, who declared hin intention of shooting Queen Victoria, is believed to be mad. It is not supposed he is connected with the organisation for killing all the European monarchs. The distress throughout the country is becoming more terrible every hour. Deputations from operatives and agricultural laborers have been appointed to wait upon the different colonial agents, and request assistance m leaving the country. Jan. 13. The French Government intend terminating the existing treaties of commerce with England m January next. The trustees of the Glasgow Bank have declared a dividend of 6s Bd. By an explosion at the Fortyfield mine, 58 persons were killed. A reduction m the rate of discount is expected. Bombay, Jan. 13. When Shere Ali fled from Cabul he was accompanied by a considerable staff, and informed his Court he waa going on a mission. Reinforcements are being sent to the British garrison m Peiwar Pass, which is being threatened by some of tbe hill tribes. General Roberts has taken every precaution to ensure his lines of communication through the passes. The British were he irtily welcomed at Candahar. London (Undated). A special telegram, undated, states chat yellow fever has appeared m Jamaica, and is rapidly spreading. The German Government are vigorously supporting the Sydney Exhibition. The French Ministry has suddenly resigned.
