Correspondence. A PROTEST.

TO THE EDITOB OF THE TIJIABU HERALD

Sib. — Knowing tbab you wield your pen m tho cause of justice, I crave a small space m your journal to protest against the proposal of the Committee appointed by the Thnaru Borough Council to obtain a suitable rite at the Washdyke for the deposit of the nightsoil of Timaru. The Committee recommends its immediate removal to Mr Stephen's farm, Wasbdyke, he being the only man who would allow his farm to beeomo tho receptacle of disease and pestileuce. Now, sir, as a resident of the Washriyke I protest against any such proceeding. At the present time it is cast into the sea, which is the most fit and proper place for its reception. However, because it is objected to by one or two about ita present locality, it is proposed to deposit it m our midst, and m close proximity to public roads iind railway ttition.

I believe a petition is being signed by the residents to bu forwarded to the Chairman of the Timaru Borough Council protesting against, the nuieance, and I wiah the residents success. If people will live above bucli a deposit, it is not our intention to live around it, and if thenightsoil is deposited here I shall be obliged to give my landlord notice and obtaiu a city residence.

Apologising for taking up so much of your valuable space, I remain respectfully, Peo Bono Publico. Wnshdyke, July 23, 1878.
