Thfl following correspondence was re* eeived : — From the Chairman of tho Kakahu School Comui'ttee, dated July lit, asking for small footbridge s to be put over the creeks near the Kakiihu school, to enable the children to get to the school. Resolved— "That tho Overseer attend to the sumo." From Mr James Curran, dated July Ist, offering to purchase tho wasto timber of the protective work which was destroyed by the late fresh. Resolved—" That Mr Curran's offer of £3 4a be accepted." From four of the surfacemen, asking the Board to retain £1 lOj out of the contract near Findlay's. Reßolved — "That the Overseer sea the contractor and arrange to stop the amount." From Messrs Taylor and Flatman, dated July 2nd, requesting the Board to take over the roads m the Woodbury township, with a view of making them public rood-!. Resolved — "'1 hat tho Board feel they are not m a position to deal with the mitter." From Mr Robert Baxter, dated Juno 28tb, asking the Board to gravel the main road leading up tho Waitohi Flat. Resolved — " That tenders be invited for the work." From tho Mount Peel Rond Board, dated June 27th, asking the co-operation of the Bojrd m bringing tho dangerous state of the embankment ut the Hangitata traffic bridge befme the Government. Resolved — '• That the ,«ame stand over until the next meeting of the Board." From the same, dated June 27th, asking the Boird to Bhare the cost of clearing out tho Rangifata cutting on the aoutli side of the traffic bridge. ReßolveJ — "That the same stand OTor until thn next meeting." From the same, dated June 27th, asking the Board to share the cost of repairing the Rangitata river bed road, m terms of the agreement between the two Boards. Resolved — " That the same stand over until the next meeting of the Board." From the same, dated June 24th, in reply to a claim sent m to them from the Board for a share of the gravel taken from Mr P. McGuinnesa' and Messrs Eearn and Kennedy's lands, and asking how the claim arose. Keßolved — " That the Clerk explain that it was f.»und necessary after the contract wus let that gravel should be provided, and that the members of the Mount P.el Road Board sanctioned tho purcliaso of gravel pits, and arc therefore liable." From Mr John Dobbie, dated July Ist, requesting the Board to place a small footbridge over the cre*k near his house. Resolved — " That the Overseer attend to the same." From Mr Alexander Kelraan, dated lat July, asking tha Board to orect another span at the west end of Hawkes' footbridgo, as the river was scouring the bank away. Resolved — "That the Overseer attond to tho same. From Mr Thomas Tindall, dated 2nd July, requesting the Board to gravel the road from Redcliff to Hilton and from Hilton to th« sehoolhouae. The Overseer stated that the roads referred to were included m bis report. From W. F. -Mackintosh, dated June 3rd, With refer.-nee to tho payment of his rates. Kesolved — "That no action, bo taken m the matter." From the surface-men, asking the Board to raise their wages from 6a to 7s per day. Resolved — " That tho surface-men be paid 7s ft day for eight hours work." From the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, dated 24th Juno, requesting this Board to cooperate with them and the othi-r Road Boards m Canterbury, m obtaining an endowment of land towards making nnd keeping the roads m repair, after the teiminution of " tho Financial Arrangements Act, 1876, which takes place on the Ist of January 1882." Resolved— "That the Clerk reply that the Board approve of the scheme, and will use their endeavors m obtaining an endowment of land. THB IMPOUNDED I/AND PITHD. The Chairman stated that he had written to the Secretary to the Treasury, with reference to the balance of the Land Fund not being paid m accordance with tho " Financial Arrangements Act 1876," to which letter no unswer dad been received ; ho also read the resolution which had been passed at a meeting of the Conference of Chairmen of Road Boards. Proposed by Mr Flatman, seconded by Mr DeKenzy, and carried — " That the Geraldine Road Board are willing, m company with the other Koad Boards of the Provincial District of Canterbury, to bear their share of the cost m suing the Government for the balance of tho Land Fund due to the Road Board up to December 31st, 1877. MAP 01 THE DISTBIOT. Proposed by Mr Slack, seconded by Mr Hay, and carried—" That tenders be invited for making a correct copy of the map of the Geraldine Road Boird district, drawn either to a ten or twenty chain scale." Proposed by Mr Slick, seconded by Mr Hay and carried— "That the Board strike a shilling rate upon all the rateable property m the District, for the year 1878." ALTERATION 02 BOAS 3. Resolved—" That the Clerk write \* the ColonLl Secretary, requesting that Mr Bh&]S, of Timaru, may be appointed to survey and prepare the plans of the roads to be abolished, and exchanged, and diversions m the Geraldine road district. CONFBBENCE OF CHAIRMEN. Resolved — " That the Chairman bo requested to attend the conference of Chairmen of Road Boards (if required), and that bis expeuses be paid." intebvtew. Mr Pye had an interview with the Board requesting that his contract, near Wigley'g, may be allowed to stand over nutil the fine weather sets ia. Resolved — "That the matter be left with the overseer to give Mr Pye notice when the road is fit to be proceeded with." Mr Michael O'Brien waited on the Board to apelogiso for some strong remarks he had made m the Board room at- a former interview, and to reqnest that his deposit be returned. Resolved— "That the Board accept hi» apology, and return the deposit." Resolved — "That all contractors whose time has expired shnll receive a notice, reminding them that their contract time is up, and that they are liable to be fined m terme of the condition of contract."

Tho Overseer's report was read and considered. Resolved — " That fresh tenders be invited for finishing Mr M. Quinn's iiontruct on tb« Waitolii Flat, and for his deposit to be forfeited." Resolved — "Thut tenders bo im-ited for forming li miles on the VVaitohi downs, and that tho owners of tho land diall huve the pegs repluced on euch side of tho road on the other length." Retolvcd — " That Lewis and Currau's road stand over for one month." Resolved — " That tenders be invited for widening and gravelling the roud from Rodoliff to ILlton ; Ro.ic iff to Patrick's, iiiid from Qalby'a to Connolly's cutting also near tho Pleaaant Valley school, and from Steins to Findlay's." Resolvofi — " Tlmt tenders bo invited for reducingj lfardcastles cutting; for a new bridge on cemetery road ; for v supply of poßts und rails, and also for a quantity of Totura piUs." The Overseer vns directed to attend to the fol'owing things : — (I). Rooair to groin Pleasant Vulley Point j (2) to obtain gravel stouo for the yards ; (3) to charge 2s 6d per diem for the use of piledriving maohino when hired out by private pnrties ; (4) to arrange with Mr Currau to shingle a length of tho road near Chapman's corner." Accounts to the amount of £954 143 8d were passed for payment, and the Board then rose.
