GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, the 7th May, 1878, at the Road Boord Office, Geraldine. MEMBERS PEKSKNT. Messrs Wm. Postlethwaite (Chairman), William Upton Slack, James Hay, William Deßenzie, and Frederic R. Flatman. PERSONAL. Before proceeding to business Mr Slack wished to read the following letter : — " To W. Postlethwaite, Esq., Chairman of the"! Geraldine Boad Board. Deab Sib, — We, the undersigned members of the Geraldine Road Board, earnestly request you not to accede to the petition of a few of the Geraldine ratepayers, asking you to resign your seat on this Board, as we feel confident the loss of your valuable services would be felt, not only by the members of the Board, but by the district at largo. (Signed) — J Wm. Upton Slack, Jambs Hat, William Deßenzie, and Fbedebio R. Flatman." Mr Postlethwaite expressed his gratitude for the kind expression of opinion from the members of the Board, and assured them that from the letters ho had received from ratepayers of the district, and from their request, he did not intend to gratify ther wishes of those persons who had, through the Timaru Herald, requested him to resign his seat. No. 3 : Whittaker's Road— Field Brothers, £76; Andrew Reid, £72; Dennis Connolly, £71 ; Charles Pyo, £68 125; John Mulvennah, £65 sa; J. P. Kalaugher, £49 12s (accepted) . No. 6: Waihi Bueh Road— Michael O'Brien, £160 ; Andrcd Reid, £139 ; Charles Pye, £138 12s 6d (accepted) ; |John Casey, £98; J. F. Douglass, £66 ; Joseph Wharton, £51 10a. No. 7 : Meredith's Road— J. H. M. Tagg, £27; Georgs Meredith, £22 16j (accepted). No. 30: Beautiful Valley— N. P. The following correspondence was read and considered : — From Mr Kyran Brophy, dated May 6th, reqaes'ing the Board to form and gravel a few chains of road m front of the Roman Catholic 3hurch, Geraldine. Resolved — "That tenders be invited for the work." From Mr Robert Morrison and others, dated May 7th, requesting a culvert to be built m the gully m Forest-street, to give access to their sections. Resolved — " That tenders be invited for the work." From M. O'Brien, dated May 7th, requesting the Board to allow him some remuneration for ex'ra length of formation near Wigley's. i Reaolvec 1 — " That the Overseer report upon the same." ' From Mr T. Edwards, dated May 3rd, applying to have the road formed leading to I the Opuba adjoining his Jand." Resolved — " That thb Overseer meet Mr Edwards, and, if the work is urgent, to call • for tenders at once." From Mr 0. R. Shaw, dated May Ist, re- • questing information as to McGuinness' gravel reserve. The Clerk stated that he had supplied the information. From the Registrar General, dated 4th L April, requesting that the enclosed forrr ■ for statistics may be fillod up and sent to him • as soon as possible.
