GERALDINE AND SCOTSBURN PLOUGHING MATCH.

The Geraldine aud Scotsburit Ploughing Match, which was hfild ou Friday last, on Jhe property of Mr Grant,- near the Oravi bridge, passed off very • succesfully, the ground being m capital order for ploughing. . the work being of a superior description,- and the attendance of spectators being good. The following is the result :—.::.' Class Ai — Opeu to all comers ; Single Furrow — First prize, £8 ; second do, £5 ; third do, £3. : ! Prize. Ploughman. ■ Owner. Ist ... James Mcßae ... Palmer. ; The work m this class was of. the very best order, the judges experiencing considerable difficulty m deciding as to the beat. . Mcßrafcney'i was the prettiest ploughing m the field, but Mcßae made better work as regarded packing and seed bed. ... Palmer . made -good work from start to finish, and if .he competes next season we should not be surprised to find him occupying the foremost position iv the field. . -: V ' ".'. Moßratney, although his was the second best ploughing m tho cla39, carried off Mr Mason's (Tomuka) prize of a whip and spurs, for- the best feeriug m tho field. The judges only awarded oneprize m this clius, as they did not consider that any other work than that . of Brophy's was .worthy of fc prize. ' . .-•.■.....■ The diuner was hold at the Sawyer's Arms, and the manner m which it was provided reflected, credit ou the hosbf-Mr .Bird. Mr C. G-. Tripp_ occupied the chair, and Mr Foster the vice chair. After the usual loyal toasts had been druuk, " The Geraldine aud Scotsbum Ploughing Match" was proposed. Mr lieatley, the secretary, m -responding, referred to the success of the day's proceedings, aud the benefits resulting from such matches, and thnuked the residents of the district for the generous manner m: which they had subscribed toward^. the^match,

I After several speeches on high cut. low cut, false cut, and other subjects interesting to farmers, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Tripp for the able manner m which he had presided. The meeting then broke up, all present having passed a most enjoyable evening.
