Jane Hannah, schooner. Kestrel, ketch. Tho ketch Kcatrel and schooner Jane Hannah arrived here yesterday from Catliu's Kiver, with 63,000 feet aawu timber fnr the passenger and goods station and engine ahud on the railway at Timaru. The ship Rakaia, one of the New Zealand Shipping Company's fleet, commanded by Captain A. Melnnis, dropped anchor off the quarantine station, Lyttelton, oil Sunday afternoon, after a voyage of eighty-ono days from Gravesend, and seventy from land to land. The saloon passengers on board number nineteen, and the immigrants three hundred and sixty-three. It being represented that there had been disease on board during the voyage, and thafrfcwo children were suffering from scarlatina on the vessel's arrival, the immigrants' were landed at tho quarantine station on Monday, and the saloon passengers allowed to remain on tho ship. The following is Surgeon-Snperiuten-tendent Boss's statement as to the diseases and deaths on board : — Five doafchs from bronchitis, two from pneumonia, two from diarrhcaa, one from meningitis, one from Eeritouitis. During the voyage there had een fifty-one cases of measles, eight cases of scarlatina, 100 cases of mumps. The first case of measles occurred on November 25. The patient was convalescent on December 16 ; the last case was on December 18, and patient convalescent on January 2. Scarlatina appeared on December 4, the last case appearing on January 27, two cases being now under medical treatment. The following is tho list of deaths: — Eliza Hannah, ten months ; William Lemon, eight months; M. Breen, one year ; J. Jones, two years ; M. Sullivan, eight months ; J. Puddle, one year ; S. Jones, five years ; E. Thompson, three years ; A. Brackett, one year ; H. Chapman, one year. The immigrants are described as being respeotable, and generally healthy m appearance. Their detention m quarantine will bo very short if no fresh cases of disease break out.
