CRICKET.

BUKKE'S PASS V. TIMABTT. This annual match, about which there was some little expectancy, came off at the Saltwater Creek on Oct. 22. The weather was all that could be desired for such a contest, and there was, consequently, a good sprinkling of spectators on the ground, who watched the game with the keenest interest from beginning to end. Timaru won the toss, and sent m Burkes Pass. Newton andDawson were the first to appear, A. Perry, and C. Perry taking the ball for Timaru. In the first over Newton's wicket fell to A. Perry — 1 wicket for 0. His place was taken by Rees, who shortly had to succumb to A. Perry — 2 for 10. M.' Gray, after a short stand, fell to the. same bowler — 3 for 17. Flint after some really good play was unfortunately run out — 4 for 23. Dawson was the next to retire, caught and bowled by C. Perry — 5 for 23. Cooke was shortly given out, leg before wicket — 6 for 34. Rutherford after playing a good steady innings, was caught by Wright. The remainder of the wickets fell rapidly, and the up-country eleven retired for the small score of 45. At 12.36. Timaru sent m Cook and Young — Rutherford and McFarlane bowling for the up-country men. — Score mounted up slowly, till Cook hit one off Rutherford well to leg for 2 ; next ball, his wicket fell to Rutherford— l for 10. In the same over, Bristol hit Rutherford well for 4. After some lively batting, Bristol was caught by Cook. After lunch, C. Perry and Wright made a determined stand, the score mounting up rapidly ; Wright was the first to fall to Rutherford. McKellar was unfortunate, being caught first ball by Rees at point. C. Perry, after a fine and careful played innings, was caught by Cook. The rest fell rapidly. The total score being 112. The Burkes Pass men cheered by the presence and applause of their late captain, struggled hard to save a one innings beating, but failed to do so, their last wicket fallingwhen but two runs were wanted to prevent this result. Mr C. Perring acted as umpire for the Burkes Pass Club, and Mr J. Thompson for Timaru. Mr Wallace officiated as scorer for the 8.P.C.C., and Mr Cartwright for Timaru.
