TIMARU SCHOOL EXAMINATION.
The Timaru School was examined on the 17th October by the Government Inspector, Mr KestelL There are about 80 children on the roll, of whom 58 were present at the examination. The Inspector reports that the progress is very satisfactory, especially with regard to the age of the children, which is lielow the average attending town schools. The accuracy of the spelling of the younger children, and the improvement m wiitiug, were especially commended. The written papers of the first and Recond classes, comprising children of from 8 to 14 years of age, were very creditable. The following m a list of the scholars commended m each class, according to the number of marks obtained : — Class L— lst, Arthur Turnbull, 94 good marks ; 2nd, John George Bos wick, 91 ; 3rd, Henry Crawford. 72. ClaBS IL — Ist. Alfred Joneh, 81 ; 2nd, Arthur Allen, 67 ; 3rd, John Gibson, G5 ; 4th, Alfred Clark, 63. Class 111. — Hephzibah Jnggar. 72 ; Harry Hamilton, 63 ; Charles Nelson, 50. Class IV.— Alfred Allen, 50; Henrietta Jaggar, 44 ; Clara Clark, 43. A paper dove by one of the boys, J. G. Beswick, has been left at our office as a specimen of the amount of proficiency at present attainable m the school.
