T HAVE been reliably informed that some -*- of the grooms travelling with entire horses m the Geraldine district have circulated a report that Scottish Chief has left but one foal from last season ; this I beg publicly to deny. My own mares are all m foal, and I have only heard of two mares m the district served by him last season which are not m foal. 'Southern Chief is rising six years old, stands sixteen and a-lrnlf hands high, and it a beautiful dapple bay with black points, is of immense strength and bone, has finesymmetry of form, and superior action, and has proved himself a sure foal-getter. His sire, the well-known horse Napoleon, imported from Scotland by John Nimmo, Esq., West Taieri, has gdined many first prizes m Scotland, Otago, and Canterbury. .His pedigree ia so well l^iiown as to need nd comment. His dam Rose out of an imparted mare, by the far-famed horse Blackleg. Southern Chief gained the second prize m Shag Valley m 1868, and stood second m Oamaru ia 1869 and 1870.
