AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Committee of the above society was held at the Royal Hotel, on Tuesday May 15. Present — Messrs. Belfield, Buchanan, French, Gosling, Howell, Hall, (T. W.) Inglis, Studholinp, Stnbbs, and Turnliull. Mr. Inglis was moved into the chair. The Secretary, Mr. Beltield, said this was the first meeting of the Committee of the above society, and the business to be taken m baud was the election of fresh members for the Committee, as the names of many gentlemen who took great interest m the society hadbeeninadvertently left out, when the Committee was first named, at the public meeting, m February last* It was desirable that a code of rules be drawn up and adopted by the Association, and he would lay before them them a copy of the rules adopted by theNorthern "Otago" Association, as a ground work to frame their own by. It was further desirable that a site should be permanently chosen for the exhibitions of the Society to be held on. He would also wish to state to the Committee that upwards of £1 50 hail been already subscribed m annual and life tickets, the former numbering 24 members, and the latter 12 members, but that he hoped that over £200 would soon be collected. He trusted that some gentleman present would give him some information as to yard requirements, &&, as on those points he was ignorant Mr. Belfield then moved, "That the following gentlemen be added to the Committee, viz : — Messrs. Luxmore, Ormsby, Patterson, Wilson, (A.) Bristol, Hassall and Major White. "

Seconded by Mr. Turnbull and carried.

The Secretary then read the rules, 10 m number, of the Northern Association, which, being afterwards put wn'iatim by the Chairman, were, with a few trifling alterations, adopted by the Committee.

Mr. Luxmore then moved, "That the entrance fees for Stock &c, as read by the Secretary, be adopted." Seconded by Mr. Gosling and carried. In the discussion as to the locality of the site for the exhibitions many gentlemen took part, but it was settled that it was unadvisable for the show to be held on the race course, on the ground of the distance from Timaru, and that the public would not so readily visit the show so far distant from the town; and also that a more central position m the district should be chosen, to meet the views of the residents at the Waimate.

It was finally proposed by Mr. Hall, and seconded by Mr. Studholme, "That Messrs. Luxmore, Stubbs, and Beltield be appointed a Sub-Committee to enquire as to a suitable place for the exhibition to be held. To report at next meeting of the Committee." This resolution being put to the meeting was carried. The business was brought to a close by a motion of Mr. Stubbs, " That the Secretary be empowered to get circulars printed m connection with any business of the association."

Seconded by Mr. Howell and carried.

The meeting then separated, after the usual vote of thanks to tbe Chairman.
