I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, ARTHUR ORMSBY. To Alfred Cox. Esq., M.H.R., and the other gentlemen who have signed tbe requisition. May IS, 1866. Miscellaneous. GENERAL GOVERNMENT. T7LECTRIC TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT. On the lsfc April a change will take place m the charges for the transmission of Telegrams on the lines of the General Government. The charge for 10 words will be reduced by one half of what is charged at present. After the first 10 words the charges will increase at a rate per word instead of per 10 words and 25 words as hitherto. With a view to curtailing addresses, which are now frequently unnecessarily long, and seriously impede the progress of business, the address and signature of all telegrams will be charged; m fact;, all matter written and presented for transmission by the sender of any telegram will be charged at the tariff rates. Instructions as to the delivery of telegrams, whether by post, special messenger, boat, or otherwise, will be telegraphed by the officer m charge of any statioD, to the receiving station, free of expense to the sender of the telegram. These instructions, together wiih tbe charges made, will be written on the back of the telegram, and signed by ihe sender. When such instructions are included m addresses or telegrams they require to be signalled twice, and must therefore be paid for once when written unnecessarily. Officers m charge are required to exact perfect addresses to insure the delivery of telegrams, and the public will be interested m furnishing the shortest and most concise addresses allowable. Tarifls may be seen at all the stations of the Department, where every information can be obtained. ALFRED SHEATH, General Superintendent. Wellington, 24th March, 1866.
