CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 28,
Mrs. Pearce has been awarded £1500 and her husband £1000 for injuries received in the Rakaia accident. They claimed £2000 and £1500. Upon the Railway Department attempting to enforce tho Classification Act, which provides 7s instead of 8s a day for casual labor in unloading coal trucks, the men struck, and the engineer gave instructions to pay at the old rate.
TIMARU, Nov. 28,
At the inquest on Robert Stewart at Totara a verdict of "Accidental .death from a gunshot wound" was returned. It is supposed the hammer caught in a creeper as he was going out of the door.
