FEDERATION.

Sir: Having received per mail from London for free distribution on the Thames a parcel of books and papers from the sect of Anglo-Israel Association, I take the liberty'of forwarding to your widely circulated paper an extract in verse on federation from its news, my excuse being the intense importance of the subject for the future well-being of New Zealand ,especially as the views are in such glaring contrast to the opinions held by the two candidates for the ThamesMessrs. McGowan and Taylor. It must be extremely gratifying to most thoughtful colonists to observe that the other candidate for the Thamos seat, "the young colonial," born amongst us; is able to rise and grasp the stupendous idea, and declare to tho people of this electorate his desire for the accomplishment of this truly patriotic and collossal idea.—federation—a system that will bind all the colonies in one mighly bond with the glorious Motherland, and prevent any alien interloper from interfering with Britain's colonies in the Pacific. Sir, it does not require much of a prophet to see that Britain's mission is to keep an open door for the world, to set the captive free, and cause to be colonised the waste places of the earth ; and any foreign power attempting to oppose her in her onward march will meet on awful disaster from Israel—and Israel is British and America, to whom the divine word says: "No weapon that is ever fashioned shall prevail against her; in the midst of the water He will be with her." And it always has been so since Britain has been a nation. And tho orders she has to obey are Godlike—first to rule righteously; to lot the slave go free and help the poor, the desolate and the oppressed; the workers to have the full fruit of their labors; and help the widows and

fatherless and the mothers with many children must be helped. Every thoughtful colonist must admit that only by concerted and mighty action can this great work be accomplished, and its great lever is federation—that Mr. Greenslade is in favor of—the federation of all British and American people.—l am, etc., GEORGE REDDISH.
