For the Army km done great good to the'.'submerged'' of Australasia, and has worthily justi tied the Queen's recognition of "tht great and varied work so courageously undertaken by the Army on behalf ol so many of their unhappy fellowcreatures in different parts of hei Empire " It is able to annouuoe the completion of "Such magnificent institutions—now fully equipped, newly furnished and ably officered—as the capaoious 'Haven' and the imposing I' Harbour,' with its lofty tower ami inagnificeot laundry, at Melbourne; the fascinating Maternity Home than looks out upon the beautiful Brisbaneriver; the Maternity' Home at Dunodiu; the liuecuo Home at Christchurch; tint maguiticent property built by our owl builders for the rescue work at Perth, and christened ''Ihe Golden Gate'; the commodious buildings we rented for our prison-gate and elevator work known as 'Fort Safety,' at Christ church; and the buildings acquired, for the same work at Auckland, known as 'Fort Reliance/" In 1897 ii supplied 796,407 meals and lodgings to 294,08-1 porsons, obtained employs, ment for 4206 men and Women, and received 1669 girls and women into its rescue and maternity homes. Iu INW Zealand a new rescue home has justbeonpurchasod at Christchurch, and a laundry built in connection with the- Wellington "Pauline House," fhe officers of the Army are to be complimented on the splendid zeal with which they pursue their most commen4able work,
