REBELS FIERCE FIGHTING. MANILA SURROUNDED. (Received at Wakapnaka, June 8, 9.20 »,m,
Hongkong, June 7. Admiral Dewey reports that the arsenal at Cavite, which was captured by the Americans in the recent battle, has been restored, ready for occupation. The insurgents say they captured eighteen hnudred Spanish soldiers and fifty officers.'
Captain Aqu&naldo, the insurgent leader in the Philippines has completely surrounded Manila and fierce righting takes place daily between the besiegers and besieged. Admiral Dewey is using his influence to. restrain the insurgents from making a <inal assault oh the city until the arrival of the American troops. He fears that shoujd an assault be made by the rebels alone, there would be ninny barbarities inflicted on the inhabitants.
